Four elite fae warriors. One mortal female. A magical bond they can’t allow—or resist. Orphaned and sold to a harsh master, Lera’s life is about mucking stalls, avoiding her master’s advances, and steering clear of the mystical forest separating the mortal and fae worlds. Only fools venture into the immortal realms, and only dark rumors come out... Until four powerful fae warriors appear at Lera’s barn. River, Coal, Tye, and Shade have waited a decade for their new fifth to be chosen, the wounds from their quint brother’s loss still raw. But the magic has played a cruel trick, bonding the four immortal warriors to... a female. A mortal female. Distractingly beautiful and dangerously frail, Lera can only be one thing—a mistake. Yet as the males bring Lera back to the fae lands to sever the bond, they discover that she holds more power over their souls than is safe for anyone... especially for Lera herself.
MY REVIEW
Well, that was...a little bit disappointing. Power of Five is a reverse-harem story surrounding "four elite warriors and one mortal female", where somehow, our "mortal female", Lera, gets sucked into the most...unexpected scenario of becoming the newest fifth member replacement to the power fae warrior's quint. This book...I read this book because I was craving a reverse harem book. While, while it didn't disappoint me in that area, I'm really let down by how this book was not as slow burn as it could've been. Even River, who arguably is the closest thing we get to a "slow-burn" doesn't really...isn't really a successful example of an actual "good" hate-love relationship. What I meant is that this book did not have enough hate at all to make a good slow burn, which is such a shame *sigh*. But for those who like when the protagonist's life changes 380 degrees overnight or just a typical hot reverse harem (if you don't specifically require a slow-burn like me), then yeah, I can easily see people eating this book up. There's then Lera. Lera...she hasn't done anything particularly specific for me to have a legitimate reason to hate her, but it's just her as a person, her aura and attitude, these things that I can't exactly pinpoint what makes me...not like her as much as I should've. Is it just me...or does anyone else feel like Lera can be kind of annoying? Like lightly getting on people's nerves kind of annoying? Overall, I think the biggest thing that made this book "lose" me was not having a good hate-love relationship. It also didn't' help that I just came from Treachery by Jaymin Eve (with a very good hate-love slow burn by the way), so expectations were on the all-time high. Oh well, I'm just glad at least I didn't' buy this book.
