Blog Tour: Thrax by Christina Bauer Book Review + Giveawy

Thrax by Christina Bauer Series: Angelbound Origins #4 Published by: Monster House Books Publication date: June 27th 2017 Genres: Fantasy, Young Adult

Review:

Myla Lewis has married Prince Lincoln, and now they’re expecting! All the after-realms rejoice. Myla should be happy too, but she has a serious problem. The day after their honeymoon ended, Myla’s real husband disappeared.

The man who’s sharing her bed is an imposter.

Myla tries explaining about “Evil Lincoln,” but no one will listen. The reason? People think that

Myla’s supernatural pregnancy is making her cray cray. Mostly because that’s what Evil Lincoln is telling everyone, and that man’s a great liar. What a creep.

There’s no way Myla will take this lying down, though. She’s going to rescue her man, and she has a pretty good idea where he’s being held. With her best friend, Cissy, along to help, Myla sneaks off to Earth. All she has to do is blend in with the humans, avoid Evil Lincoln, and find her real man before the baby arrives. How hard can it be?

MY THOUGHTS

I remember when I first saw this book tour looking for hosts, I swear my eyes were flashing like this:

I was no stranger to Christina Bauer's books and her writing style, especially to the Angelbound world, and more specifically, the protagonist Myla's absolute savage and sassy tone. So of course, I signed up for the tour within 5 seconds. No way I'm missing this.

Her series is also are unique because she doesn't write it in order. For example, I've already read to the part where Myla had her second child, and here this newest book is talking about when Myla is impregnated with her first child.

So I'm reading this book not to see what's happening or going to happen, but purely because I love the characters and want to see more of them.

This book (like every Angelbound book ever) gave me incredible stress level overdose. I don't know if it's because I know that no matter how much they go through, the author will just not give them a break. Despite the fact that I know they're going to be fine, I have to give it to Christina: she knows how to make a reader stressed, and pissed through really, really, horrible characters. If there's one thing she's good at, it's making characters that you hate so much that while reading this book, your kindle was truly in the danger of you smashing it out of anger. (Just look at Ethan and Adair. Oh my god hate them so much I swear to god).

So basically this was me throughout the entire book:

However, no matter how stressful the book was, I noticed something after I finished it: there was...kind of no depth?

Think of it this way, if a book is always happy, or always sad, or always stressful, that means that book has no true suspense, which means...not a lot of depth.

The character development had not completely stopped in this book, and we do see how Myla finally sits in her role as both queen and mother. However, I don't really think this book would score very high for anyone looking for a very good and in-depth story-line with lots of meanings. On the other hand, this book is a very fun adventure - everyday fantasy story, and as a fan of this series, I genuinely enjoyed it.

But because of the unique writing order, I read this book (and this series in general) not because I want to know what would happen next, but to look back at the past, just because I love the series so much and would love to see more.

Overall, I really liked this book, enjoyed reading it, and Christina did not disappoint me as a fan of the series.
